Are you interested in doing some sailing this summer?

What we are trying to do is offer people the chance to get involved with boating. This is a way for you to make new friends on the water and learn about sailing in the process. If you just want to socialize, and like to have fun on the water, then come for one of our social events. Bring food and drink and smiles and we will have a great time on and off the mooring.

If you want to sail more seriously and are willing to do some work on the boats or be part of the crew, then there are ample opportunities to come sailing. We'll even be offering some people the chance to take longer sails including destinations around the Long Island Sound, New York Harbor and beyond, based on your experience and level of participation. The more you put in, the more you'll get out of it!

Do you fit into one of the following three categories?

a) I don't have any experience, but would love to participate in social events and leisurely outings aboard.

b) I have some sailing experience and want to sail a few times during the summer, learning as I go.

c) I want offer my help with the boats and be on the water as much as several times a month.

We have outings and events that make sense for anyone at any level of experience. Sign up and let's talk about it!

THE BOATS

The two vessels include Chipper-B and Buttered Side Up, both based in Westport, Connecticut, convenient to I-95 and Metro North.

Chipper-B is a 57 foot, 32 ton, blue water vessel on which you can learn about handling larger boats, from sailing to anchoring to problem solving. Even if you have a lot of experience sailing smaller boats, Chipper-B will teach you a lot about yourself and moving to larger vessels. Chipper-B is also a great boat for kicking back and relaxing in beautiful Westport Harbor. Food, drink and smiles will be in good supply this summer!

Buttered Side Up is a 32 foot sloop in need of some TLC. The right crew will get her ready to sail in a few weekends and enjoy sailing outings around Westport. This boat is for people willing to exchange some elbow grease for an enjoyable summer of frequent outings aboard both BSU and Chipper-B.

ABOUT THE SKIPPER:

Know your skipper! My name is Ed Train and I's the owner and skipper of these boats and the organizer of this sailing "program". I have sailed Buttered Side Up since the early 90's and Chipper-B for all of this century. Before that I sailed anything I could get my hands on. I am a competent, safe and calm captain. Of course there will be drama and cussing, but that just goes with the territory. We have no races to win, no cargo to deliver, probably only a few people to rescue and a whole summer to enjoy messing around with boats.

I am a fanatical boater -- that means I spend too much time on the water for my own good and have a mountain of plans and projects with not enough time to do all of them. Last year for personal reasons I didn't sail and the boats were mostly neglected, so they need some enthusiastic people to get them into shape and enjoy a summer out on the water. I could use the help and some enthusiastic people to get me motivated to do more sailing. If you are willing to work and learn some new skills, I'll be happy to offer that opportunity! I'm not looking for "free labor" exclusively, but inclusively! If you want to help out, I can offer you a great summer on the water. If you just want to socialize, that's fine too, but I will be giving preferential treatment to those who apply some elbow grease and effort with boat maintenance and upkeep. Therein lies the rub, pun intended.

The people I usually sail with are easygoing and friendly, and if you don't like the crowd, it may just be YOU! ;) Looking forward to seeing you on the water.
